Domus

Our design for the residence in Kakadu started off with a story and a thumnail., it Started off with the dream time beliefs of native tribes, about a woman who sculpted the lands and created life will her dilly bag and walking stick.

the first layout of design was put forth and the group studied passive cooling techniques which would prove useful in later designs. We found that cross ventilation and protection from the sun using double skinned walls/rooms would prove most useful

a new design layout which better suited human interaction was chosen. it involved an internal courtyard to give the residents a focal point in the house providing nice views and an enclosed external environment providing protection from the sun. This is then surrounded by the bedrooms which each have their own private deck as a place to retreat when one wants privacy and a communual kitchen and living room.
