Tested and Refined-Battersea 6

Domus Tested and Refined!!!

Domus has now been tested and Refined and is in its final stages of presentation layout.
Key elements that were tested were as follows

- Ventilation via Fluid Mapping- found to be more then satisfactory- no changes made.
- Shading- tested via shadow diagrams... needed more- eves were extended
- Water catchment- potential for more... extended eves catered for this
- Water system-refined by way of use of Grey water storage onto garden- also redesign of guttering to make water a feature of the overall design.
- Permercutlure- more indepth look at food sources and places suitable to grow various food varieties
- Site plan and layout, look at how Domus responds to site and how Gardern area reacts with natural surrounding's.
- Materiality- look at EE of materials, what needs to be brought onto site.

All in all we aimed to make our presentation: clear, concise and simple to best illustrate the small changes to the Domus design.

Domus Test & Refine Fluid Mapping

For the re-design of our Domus, we looked closely at Fluid Mapping to predict ventilation paths through the private rooms of our design. The winds from the south east penetrate through the private rooms and into the central courtyard when all windows and doors are open

Solar Panel Calculator

So as a part of our groups test & refine we wanted to know exactly how many PV panels we would require and what size to power the minimal amount of appliances in our house. This website is great for overall solar technologies, however they have a nice program on there which does a whole lot of calculations for you. The link to the page brings you straight to the 'build a system' page. Just follow the instructions and it shouldn't be too hard for most. The cool thing is that using the google map you can type in kakadu and it will use values from the near Jabiru waether station for climate data.
Anyway thought id share the useful tool.

DOMUS KAKADU - Roof Study

The following pictures are somewhat an attempt to chronicle the development of the roof for our Kakadu house. The first pictures illustrate an attempt to understand the geometry of the roof (white card at 1:100) the following a final model of the roof, built on very rough 'formwork' of sorts...

Re-Capping on Tri 2 2009 Design

re-capping on Trimester 2 2009 Design!!

Our group has successfully put together well thought out, and articulated response to the Domus brief for part one of the Domus design. Key aspects addressed were in direct response to the climate in terms of heat, shading, ventilation, comfort and EE as well as easy of constructibility.

I thoughroughly enjoyed working on Domus and want to say a huge thankyou for my entire group dedication, team work, understanding and help. I felt everyone worked well together, all differences of opinions were constructive and kept the over all design in mind, everyone made allowances and took on bored all ideas that were put on the table.

All in all, I was personally more then happy with the end result of our projects this semester and am proud of the work that was put in to get us there.
